Billy Bragg Roaring 40 Tour

Updated: Oct 22

Around Toronto-Billy Bragg on a Gibson Jazz Guitar at Massey Hall Friday October 11th 2024. Billy opened his nearly two hour set to "The Wolf Covers its Tracks" mentioning "Cease Fire Now" after the tune obviously regarding the Israel Gaza war ongoing since October 7th 2023. The wolf starts with a Dylan line "Oh my name it means nothing my age it means less" which for Dylan a lyric from "With God On Our Side" goes on with "and the land that I come from is called the midwest." For Bragg lines include "I'm tired of hearing that God's on the side of suicide bombers and jet planes that fly to drop bombs on civilians to even the score where's the God of the children in the rubble of war..." Bragg is comedic while also being a troubador-a modern day Woody Guthrie fighting facism and finding sadly a greater need now than when he really launched in the 1980s. Another topical number was "King Tide and the Sunny Day Flood" commenting on the effect of climate change on warming Floridian waters resulting in floods happening on Sunny Summer days. Bragg and the Canadian audience sang some of his classics notably including "Mid-Century Modern" and "Sexuality." See more below or click.
