Roadside Rest Area-Norway
Rolling Stone April 2020 pp55 “Can We Plant Enough Trees? “The trillion-tree project may sound like corporate greenwashing, but there’s real science behind the idea” By Tim Dickinson
In recent times, we worry about forests, summer heat, high winds and fire but more foresting can be part of our Global Warming solution. As you may not know, trees fix carbon that is they take up carbon dioxide from the environment and convert it to cellulose/wood. We can by planting as many as one trillion trees, reforesting an area the size of America, “capture as much as two-thirds of atmospheric carbon dioxide released since the dawn of the industrial age”. The cost of such a project is estimated at $300 billion.
This “window is closing” and must be combined with cutting emissions.
