Kroger (NYSE:KR) has added Austin to it’s plan to expand delivery services in existing markets like Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas and new markets like “Austin, Birmingham, Cleveland, Oklahoma City, Orlando, San Antonio and South Florida.” Cincinnati based Kroger partners with Ocado, “a leader in technology for grocery e-commerce.” The Austin address is still TBD but reportedly will be a 70,000 sqft “last-mile facility…[that]...will be fueled by a fulfillment center in Dallas.”
The service is targeted to start later this year and will add 161 jobs. This obviously brings “new competition to the market for HEP LP” and others. “Opportunity Austin, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce’s economic development initiative, partnered with Kroger’s economic development team to facilitate the expansion.”
