Around Austin-The University of Texas Longhorn Football season opener Saturday August 31st 2024 was a 14:30 start. A crowd of 99,171 enjoyed the pregame show despite a high temperature of 93°F by signing "horns up!" The 14,000 sq ft LED video screen shows the students getting the party started. The Longhorns last faced the visitor Colorado State Rams in 1975 and shut them out 46-0. On Saturday the Longhorns again dominated 52-0. Scoring by Quarter 7-0, 24-0, 14-0 and 7-0. Starting QB Quinn Ewers was 20/27 passing for 260 yards (3TD/1INT) with the team scoring 38 points. After that, given the lead, Arch Manning was inserted and the team scored quickly and then again later accounting for the final 14 points. Manning was (5/6) for 95 yards (1TD/0INT). The crowd cheered loudly when Manning came in late in the 3rd quarter and he and the team got right to it. With 2:30 remaining Manning made a lateral pass to Silas Bolden at the 5 yard line and Silas enthusiastically dove into the endzone for the TD. The crowd erupted! The Longhorms travel to face last year's National Champion Michigan in what will be the marque game including ESPN's "College GameDay" in Ann Arbor. More from the game below or click.
