Around Austin-One of the remaining Moonlight Towers in Austin. This one, actually a replica of the originals, is in Zilker Park and anchors the annual lighted Christmas Tree. According to Wikipedia.org "the moonlight towers in Austin, Texas are the only known surviving moonlight towers in the world." They are 165 feet high and originally had "six carbon arc lamps." These lamps, dating back to 1895 had to be manually ignited by workers who climbed each of the 31 towers. Today 17 towers remain and have six mercury vapor lamps.
