Although Austin is building homes faster than any American city it seems not fast enough to “stop prices from rising amid low inventory.” According to Redfin (RDFN) … “Austin metro had the most single-family building permits per capita [31.1 per 10,000 residents] among major U.S. metros in the first quarter of 2022.” This equates to a rate of 12.4 per 10,000 annually. Despite this improved rate of starting new homes “in Austin city limits, the median home prices reached a record $640,000 in April, up more than 16% from the same month a year prior…”
