Williamson County's Rapid Growth Continues with Megaprojects

Williamson County(WILCO) has been growing rapidly for a decade but now is reaching a new pace with megaprojects slated for WILCO and nearby.


The projects


Samsung-The biggest ever direct-foreign investment in Texas of $17 billion is slated for Taylor, Texas. 2,000 jobs will open for the semiconductor plant with "ancillary companies to arrive soon" as well.


Apple-Pandemic permitting, Apple will open it's new $1 billion campus on Parmer Lane in March 2022. The site will house at least 5,000 staff.


Amazon-has just opened at 1,000 employee sorting facility in Pflugerville and may add others in Round Rock and Georgetown. Amazon could become the largest employer in the Austin Metro area surpassing Apple, Dell and "No. 1 H-E-B on ABJ's annual list of the largest private sector" employer.


Mixed-use in Round Rock-”Developers continue to push for density in Round Rock. Two projects follow this plan. First “The District” (Pictured Above) long delayed due to the pandemic is “gaining steam at TX-45 and I-35 near Dell’s HQ. The District is planned to include “3 million square feet of office space, 1,600 multifamily units, a 250-room hotel, 230,000 square feet of retail and walkable/bikeable open spaces over the next decade.” Near Dell Diamond a “110-acre mixed-use project” that will include housing, retail and more” is planned near East Palm and Kenney Fort boulevards.”


Northline-in Leander there’s a plan for a “115-acre project” to exist as a new downtown including 700,000 square feet of office space, 300,000 square feet of retail space, 150,000 square feet of hotel space, 2,000 apartments, 300 townhomes and civic space.” The project will have its first building in a year but will be completed in 2031 and will be located “south of San Gabriel Parkway between US183 and 183A toll road.”


Cedar Park Convention Center- will consist of 117 acres “that includes a hotel, a 30,000 square foot conference center and hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail and warehouse space.” The project will be located at 750 E New Hope Drive near 183A.
