Nikkei Asian Review September 3, 2020 Online 06:00 JST “China officials run for cover as Xi Jinping (XJP) prepares for another brutal purge”. “Rival Youth League sends coded message to prepare for the coming storm” By Katsuji Nakazawa
XJP announced through his long-time associate of 30 years-Wang Xiaohong, close aide, and presumably protégé that “’two-face people’-those who officially pretend to obey him but secretly resist will be removed.” XJP since taking over in 2013 has brought the military, the police and the secret police under the “Party’s” control. He reconvened the Biennial National Congress on August 26nd bringing together about 300 senior police and state security officials. As a show of strength, or a forecast of what’s to come on the international front, on the same day XJP fired off four ballistic missiles into the South Pacific Sea of the types dubbed “Aircraft Carrier Killer” and “Guam Killer.” At a minimum this type of activity raises the liklihood of an accident.
On the home front, leaders are leaning on every hint as XJP besides the “two-faced” message has reinvigorated Mao Zedong’s 1940s “Spirit of Recertification” AKA a “campaign to purge” political opponents. Opponents like the “Youth League”, which may come under Wang’s control, are “sounding the alarm” in coded messages. Recently, Gong Daoan, the Vice Mayor and Top Security Official of Shanghai “has been placed under investigation” for corruption. Some may sense a resemblance to XJP’s “massive educational practice activity” of 2013 that led to an “anti-corruption” purge. Simlarly, prior to the 2017 Biennial National Congress, presumably-selected “Sr. military officials were arrested for corruption”…”some killed themselves." In that move, XJP also “ensnared an influential politician” thought by many as his heir-apparent. Like 2017, suddenly there also is a reemphasis on a “banning of luxury and attaching importance on frugality.”
